Veterans helping Veterans
On the weekends of Dec 4-6 and Dec 18-20, the Legion played host to 9 disabled veterans participating in a totally free guided deer hunting retreat sponsored by the English River Outfitters (ERO) of Washington, IA.
The veterans, and volunteers from the Legion (Curt Phillips, Cliff Bohling and Scott Storck), the ERO and the US Army Corps of Engineers, spent the days successfully hunting the Corps areas around the Reservoir and met at the Legion each evening for dinner, refreshments and relaxation.
Breakfast and lunch was catered by Ruzicka’s and they will also process the deer bagged by the hunters.
Several of the veterans expressed their gratitude that “someone cared enough about veterans to put these weekends together and show their support“.
(English River Outfitters was founded in 2008 by veterans to help disabled and wounded veterans. To find out more about their programs, visit: www.englishriveroutfitters.org.)
Santa Comes to Town!
On December 8 and 9, Santa and his Elves visited Chatham Oaks and the Solon Care Center to spread some Christmas Cheer.
